Additional information

The clearing agent will have to liaise with the inspector from the Ministry of Works to have the vehicle inspected prior to obtaining release. Motor vehicles originating from countries outside the EAC region arriving without a certificate of roadworthiness from the country of origin will be subject to a destination inspection fee of 20% of the customs value by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
For motor vehicles originating from the EAC region arriving without a certificate of roadworthiness will also be subject to a destination inspection fee where traders will be required to pay whichever is higher of $265.00 or 0.65% of the customs value with a maximum fee payable of $2,700. In such cases, KEBS will issue a demand note.
